Although Apple has been selling record number of iDevices, the iPhone
5c hasn’t being doing all that well.
According to the report, close to 2 million units of the phone are lying at contract manufacturer Pegatron’s plant, while the remaining are catching dust at retailers and carriers’ shelves. Apple hasn’t ordered new iPhone 5c units since last year. A major cited reason for this has been the rather steep price of the phone. The mid range phone costs as much as the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 in some places, while its specs are over 18 months old now. It is rumored that Apple might have also learnt a lesson about the screen size from the phone and might bring a bigger phone the next time with a screen close to 4.5-4.7 inch in size.
Although, one can’t deny the fact that the iPhone 5c has helped boost the sales of the iPhone 5s, which buyers perceive as a premium model over the plasticky iPhone 5c. This of course, has helped Apple’s profit margins.
Hopefully, we might get to see a much called for price cut on the phone soon enough.
