Make sure that you clear your schedule for Tuesday, October 22; especially if you are an Apple fan. Word from AllThingsD sources is that is the date Apple will hold an invitation-only event to announce new products, specifically the latest updates to the iPad family.

We expect the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 to show but it has been reported that we are likely going to see more than just new tablets. The site said sources are name-checking the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks, which stands to reason as they gave us brief insights into these products some time ago now. We could also easily see some new iPods and maybe other devices, as well.   The October 22 date makes change to an earlier rumour that October 15 would be the date of Apple’s iPad event. Apple has yet to send out invitations, something it typically does one week before its product events. If the event is planned for October 22, we should see invites go out on Tuesday.

The fifth-generation iPad and the next iPad mini have been the subject of countless leaks in recent months, all pointing to new specs, new designs and new colours. The next iPad is believed to take after the iPad mini, with a slimmer figure than the current model. It should run Apple’s new A7 processor and will likely feature a further improved camera.  The iPad mini 2 is widely expected to arrive with a new Retina display.  While a location isn’t confirmed, it appears as though Apple won’t host this iPad happening at San Jose’s California Theatre, the location of its October 2012 iPad event.  The other site suspects are Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium at its Cupertino campus or the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the San Francisco building where it held the iPhone 5‘s unveiling. Apple may surprise us all and choose a completely new venue for this event.  To note, Nokia World also takes place October 22 and it’s the day the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 launch. So, when I say clear your calendar folks, I mean it!  Stay tuned.
