There is still no sign of the patch on T-Mobile, AT&T or Verizon, where the Note 3 remains on Android 4.4.2, but we'll update you as soon as we hear more.

Sprint began the rollout on September 5th, which by now should mean most users have it. Keep checking the software update section in Settings, under the About Phone subcategory to see when your handset will be ready for the patch.

Source: gsmarena

Have something to add to this story? In fact, according to a report released last year, the average American household has more connected devices than humans, evening out to close to six devices for each house!

SEE ALSO: Google Removes Amazon’s App from Play Store

Think that brand-new smartphone in your pocket is pretty cool? In just a few short months it’ll be officially obsolete. In early 2015, the first phones with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chip will arrive on store shelves, and they’re going to power all kinds of new experiences in the next generation of mobile devices.

Qualcomm Snapdragon processors power virtually all of today’s top-tier phones that aren’t iPhones. Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry — if it’s a flagship device (or close), chances are it packs a Snapdragon (although Nvidia’s Tegra line and Samsung’s home-grown chips make rare but notable appearances here and there).

A smartphone or tablet’s processor is the backbone of the entire experience. Every app, every push notification, every pixel is controlled by the CPU (although graphics are sometimes handled by a separate GPU). Greater computational power means enhanced abilities, and the company’s best chip on the market today — the Snapdragon 805 — enables experiences like the virtual reality environment on the Samsung Gear VR (created by a Qualcomm-powered Galaxy Note 4).

The Snapdragon 810 will level-up things even further The Snapdragon 810 will level-up things even further. In a briefing with reporters, Qualcomm demonstrated some of the practical new abilities its new processor will enable in next year’s smartphones.

Here are five things next year's smartphones, powered by the 810, will be able to do that this year's can't:

Juggle 4K video

This display has 4K resolution, but the device is also capable of wirelessly streaming 4K video to a display.
IMAGE: MASHABLE, CHRISTINA ASCANI
Yes, smartphones such as the LG G3 already have Quad HD (2,560 x 1,440) displays, which more pixels than you’ll ever need, but the new phones will be more about moving 4K video around than actually displaying it. A phone with a Snapdragon 810 will be able to wirelessly stream a 4K video (4,096 x 2,160) to a TV with just a few taps. Of course, you’ll need a TV or dongle capable of receiving it, but that’s in the works, too.

And just where will we get all the 4K video? Qualcomm believes that we’ll create it ourselves, and there’s good reason to think that. Most flagship smartphones can already shoot 4K video (it requires only an 8-megapixel camera), and the company estimates 500 million devices will be 4K-capable by 2018. An ecosystem needs to arise to deal with those big video files, and the 810 enables exactly that.

Simulate an optical zoom

The computational power of the Snapdragon 810 chip will let smartphone cameras like this one simulate the zoom power of a DSLR lens.
IMAGE: MASHABLE, CHRISTINA ASCANI
There’s a new kind of smartphone camera, made by Core Photonics, that’s actually two cameras: a normal wide-angle imager, and one with a fixed telephoto lens that magnifies the image about 3x. Using the serious computing power in the Qualcomm chip, the phone can combine the two images to create a picture that Core Photonics claims is better than what a DSLR can capture, at low zoom levels.

Checking out a live demo of the camera, I could read the text in a Peanuts cartoon that the camera was aimed at, even though the zoom was engaged at about 8x. The picture from a normal camera, displayed alongside the Photonics cam, was noticeably blurrier, and the text was illegible.

Record directional audio

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip will enable directional audio recording while capturing video, letting the camera capture individual voices in a loud room.
IMAGE: MASHABLE, CHRISTINA ASCANI
One big issue with capturing video on cellphones is audio quality. With the new chip, the phone will be able to process sound in a way that captures it in specific directions. If you, say, just want to record audio from the person you’re filming, you’ll be able to tell your camera you just want his or her voice, and nothing else.

Serve as your home PC

This receiver enables a Snapdragon 810-powered tablet to become a home PC by connecting to a monitor, keyboard and mouse wirelessly.
With this much computing power in a phone or tablet, it can actually serve as a PC workstation, connecting wirelessly to a workstation with a monitor and keyboard. With a device not much bigger than a Chromecast, a Qualcomm-powered tablet can power a the workstation, connected via the next generation of Wi-Fi, called 802.11ad (aka WiGig).

The Snapdragon 810 will be the first Qualcomm chip to support 802.11ad, which is about 5x the speed of the current 802.11ac standard. That’s good enough for 4K and then some, although it’s going to require new hardware all around.

Game like a console

A Snapdragon 810-powered smartphone or tablet can do double duty as a game console, wirelessly streaming gameplay to a TV.
IMAGE: MASHABLE, CHRISTINA ASCANI
Finally, a phone or tablet powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor will be a pretty good substitute for a game console. While Android has had difficulty in becoming a fully fledged game platform, next year’s hardware will be superb for gaming, able to connect to an external monitor wirelessly with ease for gaming on a big screen.

All these new abilities are just demonstrations at this point — it’s up to manufacturers to implement them. But they certainly will, and tomorrow’s smartphones will surely play an even greater role in our digital lives than they do now… if that’s even possible.

Have something to add to this story? So for people who have been aching for a OnePlus One, there's no time like the present.

The OnePlus One has gotten a considerable amount of fanfare for its highly customizable software. The OnePlus One has a 5.5-inch, HD display, as well as 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage (64 GB for $349). The phone has 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, too. The backfacing 13-megapixel isn't too shabby — and it can take 4K videos — while the front-facing cameras has 5 megapixels.
Source: Androidcentral

Have something to add to this story? The news was already broken by Motorola at MWC, but now, tipster evleaks hints that the phone could be called Moto X + 1 and would hit the markets soon.
Of course, now that Lenovo would be in charge, things might be a little different. First, Moto X has been made available in some countries only recently, seven or so months after the phone was announced. We might see Lenovo improving on that timeline and making the process a little more quick with the successor. The company might also want to bring Moto Maker to other countries. On the hardware front, we doubt Lenovo will have much of a say at this point in time, but we’re expecting a 1080p display, improved processor and maybe, camera too. Also, the Moto X offered some unique features which we’re expecting to trickle down to Moto X + 1. We’ll certainly know more in the coming days.
Source: @evleaks

As such, when you’re building your own smartphone, the first thing you’d want is to get the size right. Google has a fair understanding of that it seems. As such, it will allow users to pick the size for their custom smartphone that they find the most apt on the Project Ara smartphone.

The video shows how different parts of the phone, including the processor and the camera module will be glued together by an electropermanent magnet, which can then be locked or unlocked by an app that sends bursts of voltage. from the sizes that are shown in the video, it seems like the phablet module will be able to hold upto 9 components, while the medium sized module (one in the image) will house 8. The smallest of them will hold 6 components together. The smallest module is expected to start selling at $50.
Make a very customizable phone, check. Make it look good, well, that remains to be seen. We’ll know more on it on April 15th at Google’s first Ara Developer conference.

This comes after it was long being said that Microsoft was in talks with companies like Micromax to bring out Windows Phone devices. However, it is believed that Micromax was asking Redmond giant to do away with the license fee before it could start churning out any devices with Windows on them.
Although licence fee has been Microsoft’s bread and butter for many long years, the change in strategy comes after Microsoft’s platforms have failed to take off on mobile devices. With low cost devices turning out to be the biggest sales force in the market, Microsoft not only needs to bring down the cost of its devices by doing away with the licence fee, but also by bringing low cost manufacturers on its team. It might seem like a loss for now, but if Microsoft gains some significant market share from the move, it will be all worth it.

The phone is successor to the Lumia 920, which held its own for a long while but needed to be replaced desperately.

See Also: Dual SIM Nokia Lumia 630 and LTE Enabled Lumia 635 Announced
Nokia has done that with the Lumia 930, which is basically the international version of the recently announced Lumia Icon for Verizon in the US (to say Verizon gets the best of Windows Phone last would be wrong now, it seems). In fact, Nokia hasn’t even bothered with changing the design of the phone much.
Nokia Lumia 930 comes with a 5 inch ClearBlack OLED 1080p display and is powered by a 2.2GHz quad core Snapdragon 800. It also packs a 20MP Pureview camera with OIS along with 2GB RAM, 32 GB of internal storage and Qi wireless charging. Unfortunately, it will also be coming with some vices of the Lumia Icon, including the rather small 2,420mAh battery and non expandable internal storage.
The phone will run on Windows Phone 8.1, although it will have capacitive buttons on the front. Available is said to begin in June in Europe followed later by Asian countries. It will be made available in orange, green, black and white.
Source: gsmarena

You haven’t met the Lumia 630. Taking advantage of Windows Phone 8.1′s capability to support active dual SIM standby, the phone succeeds last year’s Lumia 620.

See Also: Windows Phone 8.1 coming to Nokia handsets as Lumia Cyan
While the phone add several new features over the Lumia 620, it also misses out on many. Lumia 630 is a 3G enabled smartphone running on Windows Phone 8.1 that will be offered in both single SIM and dual SIM variants. The phone packs a 4.5 inch FWVGA (854 x 480) display protected by Gorilla Glass 3. It will also come packing a quad core Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. The battery has also been upgraded to 1,830mAh, while the RAM remains the same (disappointingly) at 512MB. Then there’s 8GB of internal memory that is expandable up to 128GB and a 5 megapixel rear camera. Surprisingly, there’s no flash on the back or a front facing camera.
Lumia 635 is similar to Lumia 630, but offers LTE connectivity (and no dual SIM capabilities). Both the phones run on Windows Phone 8.1 and support the extra column of Live Tile. They will also offer fitness tracking using a low-power SensorCore chip.
Nokia has made the devices pretty affordable, with the Lumia 630 going on sale for $159/169 for the single SIM and dual SIM variants, while the LTE enabled Lumia 635 retailing for $189. The phones go on sale starting with Asia later this quarter.
Source: gsmarena

This time around, the update will be called Nokia Cyan (and not Cherry Blossom Pink, as rumored earlier). Previously, the GDR2 carrying update was called Lumia Amber, while the one with GDR3 onboard was known as Lumia Black.
The update will also bring advanced new features like enhancements to the camera roll and Creative Studio, as well as an improved Nokia Storyteller app. That, of course, with all the other features of Windows Phone 8.1, including Cortana, Action Center, Swipe keyboard and more.
Nokia hasn’t given any timeline on the update, but given their track record in the past, it should take well over a month or two.
Source: wpcentral
