Fitness trackers and smartwatches are the “in” devices these days, whether it’s because of the size or they actually do add to one’s life experience. You already know what I think about the Pebble (it’s still sitting here gathering dust), although I have high hopes for smartwatches of the future. Fitness trackers are another story.

And when it comes to fitness trackers, Fitbit has carved out a niche for itself with its range of teeny weeny fitness products ranging from the One to the Zip to the Flex. They even have a scale called Aria.

But that’s not all there is to Fitbit. Rumor has it that they are getting ready to showcase a new fitness tracker, and it’s called The Force. Yeah, I can already see Star Wars fans holding their breath for this one.

Name notwithstanding, the Fitbit Force is supposed to be the top of the line. What makes it so? The Verge has received promotional info on the Fitbit Force, and it looks like we’re going to see features such as:

Fitbit Force

  • a built-in altimeter; that’s the thing that measures altitude. How is this useful? The tracker can tell you how many (flights of) stairs you’ve climbed in a day. Err…

  • an improved display (always welcome)

  • partially water-resistant

  • a physical button to use for navigation

  • a watch function.

Given that Fitbit is being quiet about The Force, I suppose that it can be a tad early to say that the new tracker is the ultimate smartwatch in that it puts fitness and watch capabilities together. It might just be a fitness tracker that can tell time, after all!

There’s no word as to when the Fitbit Force will come out, but there are rumors that the device will cost $129.95, which is $30 more than the Flex. I think that’s a fair price, especially compared to a not-so-smart watch that you probably will not use.
