HTC plans to focus better on mid range phones this year after having missed out on them the last year and the new Desire 816 and Desire 610 are the first steps in that direction. While the Desire 816 will be the ‘hero’ mid-end phone, the Desire 610 will be just a mid mid-end phone (doesn’t make quite the sense, we know).

HTC Desire 816

Speaking of the Desire 816 first, the phone will come packing a 5.5 inch 720p display unit and will be powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.6GHz. The phone will also feature 1.5GB of RAM, 8 gigs of internal storage and an impressive 13 megapixel f/2.2 rear camera and a surprisingly good 5 f/2.8 megapixel camera on the front. Desire 816 will be powered by a 2,600mAh battery and will come with Sense 5.5 out of the box. Oh, and you can expand that internal storage to a staggering 128GB via microSD card. The phone will see a global release in April.

HTC Desire 610

The other phone that was announced by HTC today is the Desire 610. The phone comes with rather subtle specs compared to the Desire 816. It packs a 4.7-inch qHD display and is powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. Then there’s 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory (expandable up to 64GB) under the hood. The phone also packs 8MP rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front facing unit and a 2,040mAh battery. Desire 610 will come with Android Jelly Bean (let’s hope not Android 4.1) with Sense UI skinned over it. The phone will go on sale in Europe in May.
