We all want quicker speeds when it comes to our Internet connection, don’t we? Whether that be at home or out and about. And we don’t usually have to wait a long time to get it either. EE 4G is now live in ten more UK towns and cities, with the operator revealing it plans to add a further 19 locations before Christmas and couple that with record sales predicted in the run up to 25 December, EE are doing quite well. EE 4G has just gone live in ten more locations, with 19 further locations to follow before Christmas holiday period. The LTE coverage has now expanded to Bath, Bournemouth, Brighton, Cambridge, Darlington, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Northampton, Poole, Portsmouth and Redcar. This brings the total number of current EE 4G locations to 141. The following cities will be added over the next three weeks; Aberdeen, Braintree, Cheltenham, Chester, Dundee, Durham, Exeter, Gloucester, Grimsby, Ipswich, Lincoln, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Peterborough, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent, Swansea, Swindon and York.
EE CEO Olaf Swantee, said “Smartphones and tablets on 4GEE are going to be a very popular present this Christmas as people across the UK continue to embrace mobile living and we make the superfast service available in even more places.”
The number of towns and cities covered by EE’s 4G network is extensively more than any of the company’s rivals, which is not surprising, as it has enjoyed a massive head start. Ofcom granted EE permission to launch an LTE service over a year ago now, (October 2012) using its existing 1800MHz spectrum.
EE currently has 1.2 million 4G subscribers and has refreshed its tariffs in the hope of maintaining the market lead, despite the arrival of strong competition in the form of Vodafone and O2. They rolled out their own LTE networks in August, while Three’s 4G service is expected to launch anytime, but their advantageous hook is the change comes at no extra cost to new and existing customers!
