Google+“Auto Awesome-ing” Your Holiday Photos & Falling Snow And Twinkling Lights

Google+ and their Auto Awesome feature for photos really surprised me last week. During one night last week, we had received a pretty big snow storm.

Like any good parents, my wife and I took our 2 year old daughter outside to play in the snow. Since this was the first time she was really old enough to play in the snow and be excited about it, I had my smartphone at the ready to take a bunch of snow day pictures. I snapped a few photos and then we all went back inside because it was a little too cold to stay out for more than a few minutes at a time.
About 20 minutes later, I got a notification on my phone that my photos had been uploaded to Google+ and that some of them had been changed to “Auto Awesome”. What this usually means is that Google+ has picked out some of the pictures and made them look a lot better, by adjusting the colors, etc., or that it has taken several pictures taken around the same time and has turned them into a sort of flip book that resembles a video. In essence, as the name suggests, Auto Awesome automatically takes your ordinary pictures and makes them awesome. I was in for a big surprise when I looked at these new Auto Awesome pictures.

Auto Awesome Adds Some Fun To Your Holiday Pictures
When I opened up the pictures of our daughter playing outside in the snow, I immediately noticed that it was snowing in the picture. I don’t mean that I took a picture of it snowing outside – I mean that snow was actually falling in the picture in real-time. I had to have my wife look at the picture to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating.
It turns out that throughout this holiday season, Google+ and Auto Awesome want to help make your holiday photos all the more memorable for you. Take a picture of the Christmas tree, and lights will automatically twinkle in your photo. Take a picture of the kids sledding, and you guessed it – snow will continually fall.
It is unknown how long this will be available, so I encourage you to set your phone to upload your pictures to Google+ and watch the picture magic unfold before your very eyes.
