City Dodge for Windows Phone is a simple but addictive game for your Nokia Lumia where you need to dodge the falling buildings and see how long you can survive. We’ve been checking it out on our Nokia Lumia 520 and Nokia Lumia 1520, find out more with our hands-on.

The game play in City Dodge is incredibly simple to get to grips with. All you need do is move your onscreen avatar from side to side and get them in the spot with the most space. So, when the wall comes tumbling down you survive and don’t become squished.
You control your character by moving from side to side. In the controls you can set this either by tapping right or left or by swiping with your finger. Both methods work incredibly well, so it’s as much about choosing the method you prefer than anything else.



The graphics and design of the game have a fun and youthful look to them. For example, when you character survives with ease, he’ll pull a pose, if it’s a little tricker then he’ll shows signs of sweating. It’s these little touches that add a flourish to the game.


The game starts out quite slow and finding the best location to survive the round is easy. However, things do quickly start to speed up as the shape of the terrain changes and the time you have to move reduces.


To help you on your way there are hints, which you can tap at any time and a pointing hand will show you the best space to aim for. As with most endless rolling games of this sort there are also Hearts you can collect that allow you to carry on playing after you’ve ben defeated. There are also in-game gifts, hints and hearts to collect.


City Dodge is free to download but you will find the game is supported by in game ads and there are prompts to other AE games between the various levels.
There are currently five gaming stages, starting with New York, which is the most classic game mode, then getting progressively harder as you go to Paris, Beijing, India and Ancient Egypt. The games also promises future stages to come.
We’ve been playing City Dodge on both our Nokia Lumia 520 and Nokia Lumia 1520 to check out the extremes of gameplay on Windows Phone 8 and found it an incredibly smooth gaming experience on both devices. This bodes well for whichever Nokia Lumia smartphone you own.
