The Start Screen has also been given an overhaul to make it more mouse friendly. It gets new search and power buttons on the top right corner, meaning you won’t have to go to the Charms menu every time you need to shut down your machine. Although, the power button won’t be present on devices like tablets, which have a dedicated power button. Also, right clicking a Live Tile (only if you have a mouse) brings up a pop up menu.<br /> Microsoft has also made small refinements to the Store and other areas like cursor movement, better memory optimization and several under the hood changes. Perhaps, even after all the criticism the OS has received in the last year or so, it isn’t too late for Microsoft to make a comeback. </div>

The news should give a hard time to competitors like Viber, Line and BBM, that offer a similar service. Perhaps, the company want’s to make sure that the 465 million user base (yes, it’s grown by 15 million since last week) sticks to the service, so that Facebook may not end up regretting its decision to purchase the company, unlike some other acquisitions in history.<br /> The service will first be brought to Android and iOS, followed by ‘some Nokia’ (is that what they call Windows Phone now?) and BlackBerry phones. Also, it happens to be WhatsApp’s fourth birthday today, so we can only imagine that the users have been given a pleasant gift to mark the occasion. How the service will work isn’t exactly known. It could be like the VoIP service that Skype and Viber offer, or it could also follow Skype’s approach of allowing users to make calls over the internet to telephone numbers in exchange for a payment. This should bring the price of the OS as low as $15 for devices cheaper than $250. Currently the fee is closer to $50 per license. The discount will be applicable on tablets and netbooks lower than the $250 price tag, irrespective of their size.<br /> Windows 8, which has sold close to 200 million licences till now, has failed to make an impact in the tablet market where even Google and Android have caught up with iPad in terms of sales. While the PC market is on the decline and the tablet market is expected to bloom, Microsoft wouldn’t want to get it wrong this time around.
