Even after all the tablets and smartphones, there are times when you still end up needing a PC and while you’re at it, you might want to keep it updated.

That’s what Microsoft is counting on and come April 2015, and you might have an all new Windows version installed on your machine.
According to Paul Thurrott and his sources at Microsoft, at the upcoming build conference in April, Microsoft would be discussing the future of Windows and that future includes the Threshold update that will most likely be christened as Windows 9. Although that’s not until April 2015 according to the source. In the meanwhile, Microsoft would be releasing the Windows 8.1 Update 1 in spring this year.
Threshold or Windows 9 is expected to bridge the gap between PCs, Xbox and Windows Phone. It becomes even more critical, since Windows 8 (and 8.1) has failed to take off as Microsoft would have hoped. Codenamed after a planet around which the Halo ring in the original game circled, the update would support the same core set of “high value activities” across platforms. These  include documents (Office), decision making, task completion, IT management and perhaps something more.
Of course, we’ve seen delays from the company in the past, so you shouldn’t really take it as a concrete date.
