MWC will see more than one company reveal their new knight in shining armor and you can add Sony to that list. Although the Xperia Z1 isn’t all that old, the company seems to be readying its successor for Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month nonetheless.

Rumored to be called the Xperia Z2, the innards of the phone have been leaked. The phone will reportedly come with a 5.2 inch FHD (1080p) display and would be powered by a quad core 2.3GHz Qualcomm MSM8974AB processor with improved Adreno 330 GPU. The phone would also be packing 3GB RAM, 20.7MP rear camera with G lens (the same as Xperia Z1), 2.1MP front shooter and Android 4.3.
Now, if it were just a refresh, we’d call it a worthwhile one. but it seems Sony is jumping the gun too soon if the D6503 is indeed the successor to the Xperia Z1 (and not the Xperia ZL) since it offers nothing significant over a phone that’s already decent by today’s standards.
Meanwhile, the phone would also be packing Sony’s new UI, the screenshots for which have just leaked online. Among other changes, significant ones include new icons in the Quick Setting menu, new themes and a generally flatter and subtle UI than what Sony has been using in the past. You can check the screenshots below.
