RadioPlayer for Windows Phone is the official app for BBC services and hundreds of British radio stations and is a great way to stream live radio, as well as catch-up programmes and podcasts on your Nokia Lumia. We’ve been checking it out on our Nokia Lumia 1520 and Lumia 520.

RadioPlayer for Windows Phone is the official UK Radio app, serving up the full array of BBC services, and hundreds more great British radio stations. It allows you to listen to live streams of radio, or browse the catch-up programmes and podcasts, including hundreds of shows from BBC iPlayer.

UK Radioplayer Ltd is a not-for-profit company, aimed at making radio listening easier. It is backed by the BBC (owners of stations like BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 4 Extra, BBC Radio 5 live, BBC 5 live Sports Extra, BBC Asian Network, and BBC Radio 6 Music).

When you open RadioPlayer for Windows Phone you’ll find a full station list in Alphabetical order you can scroll to. You can also use the Search bar to put the name of your favourite stations in.

The Recommended options are based on location software in your Nokia Lumia, pulling up local stations in your immediate, and in some cases not-so-immediate, area.

What’s great about the app is along with streaming the latest radio stations you’ll also find a host of Catch-up shows from the BBC iPlayer service.
Once you’ve tapped on a station all you need do is tap the player at the bottom of the screen and it will start to play. The app is free to download but your operator’s charges for using the internet over mobile networks may apply. Connecting via WiFi is recommended where possible.
What’s more, you’ll find that any stations you’ve listened to will also appear in the My Stations list from where you can pin them to your Start screen as a Live Tile. In this way, you can immediately tap into your favourite channels without needing to open the app.
RadioPlayer for Windows Phone also partners with a huge list of channels, including Absolute Radio (who run Absolute Radio 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and Classic Rock), Global Radio (owners of stations like Heart, Capital, Gold, LBC, XFM, Chill, Choice and Classic FM), and the people from Smooth Radio and Real Radio.
Other stations in Radioplayer include talkSPORT, Kiss, Kisstory, Magic, Kerrang, Planet Rock, Jazz FM, Fun Kids, Ministry of Sound, Free radio, Gaydio, Radio Caroline, Radio Jackie, and TeamRock. We also feature community and student stations – so there’s something for everyone.
We’ve been using the Radioplayer app on our Nokia Lumia 1520 and the budget Nokia Lumia 520 and it works smoothly on both devices, highlighting that it will work across the full array of Nokia Lumia running Windows Phone 8 devices.

RadioPlayer for Windows Phone is a free 2MB download from the Windows Phone Store.
