The AnTuTu team keeps a watchful eye on its database for unannounced phones and not one but two entry to mid-range HTC phones were caught in their net.

Remember that octa core HTC Desire we heard about not so long ago? Turns out it exists for real and has just popped up on benchmarking tool AnTuTu. The device is essentially a mid ranger.

Codenamed D616W, the phone features an octa-core MT6592 chipset with eight Cortex A7 cores clocked at 1.6GHz. It packs a 720p 5 inch display along with 1GB RAM and a disappointing 4GB internal memory. Then there’s 8MP/2MP cameras and Android 4.2.2. It looks like HTC hobbled a great phone by cutting on the memory and the RAM.

Another phone from HTC has also leaked alongside the D616W. This one’s called D516W and packs a quad core Snapdragon MSM8610 with four Cortex A7 cores at 1.2GHz and Adreno 302 (pretty low end). It will also be featuring disappointing 768MB RAM, 2GB internal memory, qHD display, 5MP/2MP shooters and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The D516W was pretty much behind the D616W in most tests except the GPU ones, where Adreno 302 (misread as Adreno 305 by AnTuTu) managed to get an upper hand due to the low resolution display.
The phones aren’t all that great or exciting, but could strengthen HTC’s line up if priced appropriately, something HTC still hasn’t really learnt.
