However, most of its gadgets are rebranded imports from neighbouring countries.  North Korea’s answer to the iPad, the Samjiyon, runs on the Android operating system and features a 7-inch screen, a 4GB of hard drive space and 1GB of RAM. It even allowed them to intercept secure data and modify it, as well as compromise the security of the network.</span><br /> Well, Samsung launched an investigation and discovered that the problem isn’t with Knox but a Men in the Middle attack that can be triggered due t user’s omission while configuring the software. Here’s what the company had to say:<br /> <i>“This research did not identify a flaw or bug in Samsung KNOX or Android; it demonstrated a classic Man in the Middle (MitM) attack, which is possible at any point on the network to see unencrypted application data. The research specifically showed this is also possible via a user-installed program, reaffirming the importance of encrypting application data before sending it to the Internet. Android development practices encourage that this be done by each application using SSL/TLS. Where that’s not possible (for example, to support standards-based unencrypted protocols, such as HTTP), Android provides built-in VPN and support for third-party VPN solutions to protect data. Use of either of those standard security technologies would have prevented an attack based on a user-installed local application.”</i><br /> And here’s how users can avoid it:<br /> 1.    <strong>Mobile Device Management</strong> — MDM is a feature that ensures that a device containing sensitive information is set up correctly according to an enterprise-specified policy and is available in the standard Android platform. KNOX enhances the platform by adding many additional policy settings, including the ability to lock down security-sensitive device settings.  With an MDM configured device, when the attack tries to change these settings, the MDM agent running on the device would have blocked them. In that case, the exploit would not have worked.<br /> 2.    <strong>Per-App VPN </strong>— The per-app VPN feature of KNOX allows traffic only from a designated and secured application to be sent through the VPN tunnel. This feature can be selectively applied to applications in containers, allowing fine-grained control over the tradeoff between communication overhead and security.<br /> 3.    <strong>FIPS 140-2</strong> — KNOX implements a FIPS 140-2 Level 1 certified VPN client, a NIST standard for data-in-transit protection along with NSA suite B cryptography. Moreover, the NSA can reportedly hack a wireless network from eight miles away. Digital activist and security researcher Jacob Appelbaum claimed he had seen documents indicating the US National Security Agency (NSA) could hack into Wi-Fi connections from 8 miles away. That was way back in 2007.<br /> In Der Spiegel, Appelbaum had disclosed information on the NSA’s Tailored Access Operations unit. As part of DARPA’s challenge, they had to create a robot that could basically move just like a human being in situations such as driving a vehicle, climbing up and down a ladder, moving over different kinds of ground, and so on. The idea was to make Valkyrie as human-like as possible. Ultimately, NASA hopes to make Valkyrie less dependent on humans and more autonomous so that it can do most things with the least amount of human involvement. Currently its controlled by a remote.<br /> <br /> <b>Say Hello To Valkyrie </b><br /> Just how flexible is Valkyrie? The folks at Spectrum IEEE, who did a large write up on NASA’s hero in training had this to say:<br /> “…Valkyrie has seven degree of freedom arms with actuated wrists and hands, each with three fingers and a thumb. It has a head that can tilt and swivel, a waist that can rotate, and six degree of freedom legs complete with feet equipped with six-axis force-torque sensors.”<br /> Valkyrie’s arms are also interchangeable and can be replaced rather quickly if one gets damaged, and several cameras are placed all over the robot allowing it to see pretty much everything there is to see.<br /> Perhaps the only possible weakness to Valkyrie is the battery it requires; it only lasts an hour before it needs to be replaced. So Valkyrie could be in the middle of searching through rubble for survivors only to have the battery die. Battery issues or not, Valkyrie seems like a good idea. After all, it is designed to be sent into places to dangerous for humans to venture. I will admit, though, Valkyrie doesn’t exactly have the same ring to it as Superman or Batman. And that is tremendously exciting.”<br /> NASA has been investigating these happenings since December 2012. They wanted to make sure that they were indeed water vapour plumes and not some other inexplicable occurence.<br /> Roth says that “long cracks on Europa’s surface, known as lineae, might be venting water vapor into space”. It would seem that the plumes of water are affected by Jupiter’s gravity and the moon’s orbital position.<br /> Kurt Retherford, one of the team members says: “The apparent plume variability supports a key prediction that Europa should tidally flex by a significant amount if it has a subsurface ocean.”<br /> These water plumes do not reach in to space because Europa’s gravity keep it there: “Instead, it falls back onto the surface after reaching an altitude of 125 miles, according to the Hubble measurements. One of their tricks that may scare and surprise even the most innocent of us is this: the FBI can turn on your laptop’s camera and watch you without you even knowing it.<br /> <i></i><br /> <strong>Good Tool Or Privacy Nightmare?</strong><br /> To be fair to the FBI, this news was revealed to the Washington Post in conjunction with the FBI trying to catch a bombing suspect who had been eluding them for quite some time. The article also reports how they used certain other types of malware to put different surveillance programs on the suspect’s computer.<br /> Here’s what surprised me most about the whole thing – the FBI has been able to secretly spy on anyone through their laptop camera for years now. It’s not some new technology that’s just now allowing them to get a closer look. Rehman explained to the committee that the government had succeeded in convincing the Google management about religious sensitivities of Pakistanis.<br /> The local search engine will also make it easier to block any blasphemous or objectionable content, she was quoted as saying. Rehman, however, said the management of Google will do so after the government of Pakistan meets some of its conditions.<br /> "Management of Google/YouTube has shown its willingness to localise YouTube in Pakistan provided they will not be held responsible if blasphemous content is placed and uploaded on its website," Rehman said.<br /> "The web service will not be held responsible for blasphemous content uploaded on its sites as that will be a personal action of the individual," she said quoting the Google management.<br /> "The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is finalizing a draft ordinance which will be processed by the ministry for enactment as law," Rehman said. She said that once YouTube was localized, blocking objectionable content would be easier.<br /> "Instead of installing costly filtration mechanisms, Google will easily be able to block blasphemous content on the request of the Pakistan government. Saudi Arabia and Malaysia have also reached a similar arrangement with Google," Rehman said.<br /> Localizing YouTube would also mean that Google would not be violating its own company law of hindering freedom of expression, the minister argued. When they first started using Apptricity, the Army paid for 500 licenses of the software. It was later reported in court documents dated from 2012 that the software was being used by some 9,000 people. That means approximately 8,500 people were using software that was not legally purchased.<br /> So, how did Apptricity even find out what the US Government had done? According to the BBC, an Army soldier was giving a presentation and mentioned that thousands of computers were using their software. That soldier has most likely been given a different job now.<br /> When Apptricity discovered the misuse of their software, they filed a lawsuit against the US Army and they won the suit, although they did not win all of the damages they sought. Apptricity asked to be rewarded $224 million in damages, of which they were awarded $50 million.<br /> Hey, at the end of the day, $50 million is still a lot of money.<br /> What do you think of this story? The XFC has the potential to last more than six hours by running on fuel cells and can be launched on land from an object as small as a pickup truck, as well as being launched from the depths of the sea.<br /> This announcement comes at an interesting time, when people are questioning the ethics and practical use of drones. Earlier this week, Amazon announced future plans to use drones to deliver packages across the United States. Since then, the world’s largest parcel service UPS, has also said it is researching the possibilties of using drones for deliveries.<br /> It certainly seems that drones are the up and coming technology.
