Even though Microsoft has stated numerous times that all current Windows Phone 8 handsets should be eligible for ‘future OS upgrades’, referring presumably to Windows Phone 8.1, the question if OEMs are as committed is a concern.

With Nokia being Microsoft’s favorite kid and HTC having troubles of its own, we’ve lost hope of any significant collaboration between the two in the future. However, that will not impact their past endeavors. In short, we mean that the HTC 8X will be getting updated to Windows Phone 8.1 whenever it arrives. Replying to a user question about Windows Phone, the HTC team said, “we’re working with Microsoft on the Blue update on Windows Phone 8X and will continue to take new products into consideration.”HTC 8X is still a great product after almost 18 months and given that it is usually available for a significantly cheaper price than the Lumia 920, can still be picked as a smart deal. Although, the fate of lesser known HTC 8S is less certain. We hope HTC brings another flagship or two to the Windows Phone arena. After all, competition only brings the out the best in people.
